About

Indonesian by birth, Westernized by choice, single mom by grace who is currently still trying to manage the art of co-parenting, blogger and amateur photographer by passions, I work full time and trying to balance it all out in the big sin city of Jakarta, Indonesia.

Having gone through a divorce, this blog has evolved from being a family-mommy blog to the way it is today as I’m trying to find me again. It’s a real blog where I pour my heart and soul into. Sometimes it will be happy, hopeful, but there are times where the tones might be dark and sad. I didn’t come out about my situation until last year after months of being separated. Masks off..I decided that the journey to healing would requires me to be honest and this blog has help me tremendously. Therapeutic is an understatement. In being raw and honest it is my hope that it will inspire other women in my shoes especially Indonesian women who still being chain by the stigma of divorce.

Here’s where I’m writing you from – see that little star with Jakarta on its side? Yeah, that’s where I am in Jakarta.

    Hey Maureen,

I don’t know if you are Muslim or not, but if you are I advise you to wear loose and non-transparent clothing to cover yourself, and seek refuge from hellfire.

[...In response to this it might be said that it is reported in a saheeh hadeeth that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“There are two types of the people of Hell whom I have not seen yet. People with whips like the tails of cattle, with which they strike the people, and women who are clothed yet naked, walking with an enticing gait. They will not enter Paradise nor even smell its fragrance, although its fragrance may be detected from such and such a distance.”

The scholars interpret “clothed yet naked” as referring to women who wear tight clothes or light clothing that does not cover what is beneath it, or short clothes. Shaykh al-Islam (Ibn Taymiyah) mentioned that what women wore inside their houses at the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) covered everything from the heel of the foot up to the palm of the hand. All of this was covered when they were inside the house, and when they went out to the market, it was known that the women of the Sahaabah used to wear loose garments which would drag along the ground. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) allowed them to let it trail up to a cubit, but no more than that. ...]

    Hi Maureen,

I found your blog by accident when i browsed few stuffs about toddlerhood and living in Jakarta.
Like you, I am Indonesian by birth, married with American and been living overseas for awhile before we decided to back to my home country.

I read, read and can’t stop reading your blog ever since! my husband was even surprised how i can be so “addicted” with your blog, or as he said “since when you’re interested with blogging world?”

Well, reading your blog just simply make my long-time-interest of writing suddenly showed up again, and then the fact that your experiences is so close to most of my experiences here and when living aboard really gave me all the joys in reading them!

I really like how you express your thoughts in words, so enjoyable, so fun and so free!
Well done M, please do keep writing and i will keep reading! :)

xoxoxo to your Lil’A, he is so adorable. I myself have a daughter, 22 mo, she’s probably equally as active as like your son. But regardless, being a mom is the best “job” in the world!

    All the best!
    Lili

  10. I love that you list yourself as a “single mom by grace”. I kind of like the way that captures the positive elements of raising your daughter alone after a divorce, rather than focusing on the negatives. (Not that those negatives should be ignored, mind. Just that it’s a cool way to focus yourself overall.)
