Have We Become Half-Ass People?

This is a guest post from one of my friends who need to get himself a blog ASAP because this guy can write and he and I had shared some interesting conversation about people.

“Jake Summers is a 30 years old Software Sales Representative, living in Upstate NY. Through his many different experiences, relationships and travels, Jake has gained a unique perspective on life, the opposite sex and the written word. Jake is a cerebral observer of behavior and constantly asking the question “why?“

He is my first ever male guest poster and please welcome him and encourage him to have his own blog soon.

We are all products. Packaged, bound and marketed. Products of our environments, experiences, and fears of our mothers and fathers. We are reinforced through society and all forms of media, in ways we are to be normal, how to assimilate, and what is the ideal life. Look at magazines, lifetime movies, Disney cartoons, commercials for razors, vacation spots, music videos.

Drop a life-form from outer space, plop him in front of a tv and they’d think we spent all our time working out, driving fancy cars, walking on the beach, not working, and spending loads of money. But oh do we buy- in! The internet hasn’t helped; providing escapism from our realities and drudgery.

The world is at our fingertips, but at what cost? Our dreams are bigger now, we see celebrities created from youtube videos, wealth on display, excess and scandal… And we want it all, everything at the same time. We need the latest style of shirt, maybe a scarf, skinny jeans, or florescent colored Nike’s we saw someone else wearing… Look where our friends went in their Facebook pictures, get jealous, become envious. We are fish in a pond chasing after the shiny lure on a fishing pole… even though we’ve been caught before, its just so flashy and new and shiny…

And we wonder why we can’t find peace.

Now our brains are red-lining, we spin around flailing at material goods, boasting about our experiences. Are we even sincere in our desires? Or are we so influenced externally that we just do… instead of thinking, what we actually

Want.

To.

Do.

There is so much stimuli, so much information. We are in warp speed, changes abound, how do we keep up? We cheat and cut corners.  We have cliff-notes and movies when we don’t want to read the book. We curse when our high speed internet is down. We email or text instead of call. Browse through Facebook pictures instead of scheduling coffee to catch up. We speed on the freeway, drink caffeine to stay up, half listen when people talk, TiVo our favorite shows and fast forward through the commercials, we have ADD… we MULTITASK… we half-ass.

We are living in the age of 50%..
